Ouhout - Leucosidea sericea.

Leucosidea sericea is a small evergreen tree ±2 to 5m in height. It has a scraggly crown with twisted, gnarled looking branches.

The leaves are dark green on top and greyish green underneath where they are covered with small hairs.

The bark is reddish brown very rough and old looking, it peels off in strips.

The flowers are green and are densely clustered in sprays. Leucosidea sericea flowers from early spring (August) into summer (December).

This tree is fast growing, decorative, very resistant to cold and needing a lot of moisture occurs along streams and rivers at high altitudes where it tends to form dense stands.
